I require advice about Mozilla Thunderbird - namely, can I import all my emails I have on my machine straight into it if I use it instead of Outlook

I know people who read this either know, or live with people who know.

If someone can reply with help/advice I'll be well grateful!

Cheers.

I suspect so, because they're specifically trying to make it easy for people to move away from Microsoft. When you install Firefox it asks you if you'd like to bring your favourites and so forth over from IE ... of course both times I've installed it so far it's hung on the bit immediately before favourites (Cookies or somesuch), but it should at least offer the service, whether it works properly or not...

firefox (or, Mozzarella sausagegoat, as it currently belives itself to be) is rock.

Thunderbird will probrably be as cool.

Otherwise search through the Thunderbird forum, someone there will have had the same problems you have.

In a related note, even though Thunderbird can import mail and settings from a variety of other programs, they forgot to include the same functionality to import from the old Mozilla mail client.
Silly Thunderbird....

Mark W: Ah well it's only 0.7, it'll be sorted in one of the next releases when they wake up, smell the coffee and go *doh*.

Its probably not as bad as all that. At least the file formats Thunderbird uses are documented (worst case in the code). I'm sure there will be scripts about that will do the conversion as its all probably stored in plain text.

But yes - raise a bug on bugzilla if one doesn't exist and it will probably get fixed next release ;-)
