Predominantly asking this of [livejournal.com profile] mapp & [livejournal.com profile] freddiefraggles who have done this, but anyone who knows.

I'm off to London with [livejournal.com profile] ephrael at the end of September for a couple of days break, and we're thinking of stuff to do while we're down there. I recall there being a few places that offer a traditional gentleman's wet shave (with straight razor) at traditional city centre premises.

I also recall you visiting one not that long a go, and posting a positive review of such.

Where did you go to, and what comments would you offer on it?

Cheers!

Visit the Natural History Museum. Personally I think it's fab. Also there are other museums and galleries in that area.

I'm afraid I can't help with the shave and the 1 londoner I know who'd be able to tell me is on holiday.

That's already on the list - we did the Geographical Museum last time.

We're also looking to go to British Museum as well.

But neither of these places will remove my excess facial hair.

The place that we went to in order to get me shaved was on Jermyn Street, and was a barber in the upstairs of one of the fancy shops there. I can't for the life of me recall what the name of the shop was, but it's somewhere between Bates' Hats and Fortnum & Mason, I think.

Cool - I've got some details for one on Jermyn Street - could be the same place. What was it like? Would you recommend it?

Trumpers on Jermyn street, old man. It's the veritable bees knees.

Ahh. That's pretty much what the profile looked like.

This is Dave. He larps, likes The Avengers, Zombies, and Cthulhu and dislikes wanky Vampire Larps, and is so far unaware that I am stalking him via a tiny implant in his left cheek, just above where he first lower molar is.

Yup, I'd recommend it. It's quite relaxing and, if you're as reluctant to shave as I am, the shave was close enough that I didn't need to shave for quite some time afterwards. The chap there was friendly. My only advice would be to mentally prepare yourself for the hot towel treatment - I didn't realise it was coming, and panicked a little when the hot towel came out and was wrapped around my face.

I might investigate shaving establishments in Exeter...

Dont use "The London Barbers" on Sidwell Street, they are crap. Bunch of monkeys with hair clippers. When they 'finished' I went home and had Carrie tidy up the bits they had missed.

Excellent. I've been hot towelled before, and shaved for that matter - at one of the early Maelstroms, back when Leum (now TonTon Macoute) played the Surgeon General.

That was good, but I quite fancy the proper 'straight edge razor' experience as well.

I shall give this serious consideration.
